Maxime Mbanda is a big man but he’s also a scared man. However, he has promised to face his fears and beat his fears and help to save other people’s lives.
Maxine is the Italian flanker who is now driving ambulances carrying coronavirus patients to hospitals. Sometimes taking virus-carrying patients from one hospital to another.
He has volunteered as a driver for Italy’s Yellow Cross Charity.
The talented Zebre back-row is 27 years old and he does fear for his own health, but he has promised to help for as long as this virus lasts.
The Enemy Is In The Air
He sees patients desperately gasping for breath. Every day he sees the fears in their eyes. He feels scared too because “every time you step into an infected department in the hospital you know that the enemy is in the air, it’s on everything you can touch…. the enemy is invisible; you can’t see it. ”
You Have To Hold Their Hand
“You have to try to take care of them like you would for parents or family. You have to hold their hand. The worst fact is after every time you touch them you have to sanitise your hands, because you know they are Covid-19 positive” says Maxine Mbanda.
Facing Fear
Despite his fear, he continues to drive the ambulances and move patients around. He is facing his fear. He is beating his fear. He is helping others – another hero helping others.
Trying To Do his BestThe 20 cap talented flanker says: “It’s difficult but I’m trying to do my best. I don’t have a medicine degree or a nurse’s degree, but I’m trying to do my best.” The 20-cap loose-forward is volunteering across the Parma area, while his father is a surgeon working in Milan.
A Humble Man
Maxine says “But I know I’m doing a good thing, in my little work, because with all respect to doctors and nurses my work is very little, but I’m trying to help as many people as possible….
So I’ll keep on going until this emergency is over.”
