A 22 year old footballer has single-handedly persuaded the government of the United Kingdom to bring back 1 million ‘free meals for school children’. Marcus Rashford plays for Manchester United (and England). Their arch-rivals, Liverpool sent a message of love to Rashford.

The UK government withdrew the £15 per week vouchers for families as the school-term ended. Rashford pleaded to bring the free meals back as he was one of those kids that needed that free meal when he was growing up. Covid19 has made it harder for everyone and a lot of kids are going hungry in the UK. Rashford’s campaign for ‘free school meals during the summer’, got the government to reverse their decision.

Although Rashford, not so long ago, scored two goals against arch-rivals Liverpool, Man Utd have put bitter club rivalries to one side and paid an emotional tribute to the fine young English footballing role model. Rashford’s efforts help to feed Liverpool kids as well. Liverpool acknowledged this.
Rashford’s humility shines through as he talks about his Mum being a great lady who needed the vouchers to feed young Rashford. A true leader has emerged in football. Perhaps a future England captain?
Real football heroes do care. Rashford is like a blast from the past era of football heroes. Roy Of The Rovers kind of stuff. And rivals, Liverpool pay tribute to that.
Mountains can be moved. Governments can do U-Turns.
In Rashford’s own words……
THIS is England 2020.

with the excellent story from EDWARD ENNINFUL
Enninful’s piece highlights the powerful feeling of seeing a new generation become conscious, concerned, intolerant of, and activated by, man’s inhumanity to man with a new steely determination to demand justice for all.
This is England 2020. A new awakening.

Thanks to Cath Smith for alerting us to the story about Liverpool FC sending Love to Man Utd FC. Extraordinary times!

Brilliant to see that despite the millions he now earns as a young player, he’s still rooted in the reality of his earlier years. He’s been there and knows the challenges faced by less privileged kids
Yes Dave he’s a very well grounded young man…. a possible future England captain?
