In 1974 the Dutch football team set the world of football alight when they introduced a whole new concept called ‘Total Football’. They revolutionised the game. This team from the Netherlands captured the imagination of football fans across the globe. If defenders went forward, midfielders played deep. Everyone could attack and enjoy themselves. This is the story of arguably, the greatest football team in the world, at this time.
This Dutch team got to the 1974 World Cup Final and lost 2-1 to Germany. In 1978 they got to the final, losing to the hosts, Argentina. And finally, ten years later, Holland won their first major trophy, The 1988 European Championship.
The Dutch changed football. The world loved their style. Their captain, the great Johann Cruijff” observed: “If you can laugh and enjoy yourself, it is one of the most important things.”
