Kenyan, Eliud Kipchoge, made history on 11 October, in Vienna by running the first-ever sub two-hour marathon in a time of 1hr 59min 40sec.
Months later Eliud Kipchoge spoke at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Here is what this amazing human being said:
No Human Is Limited
I proved them wrong by running and breaking the two-hour barrier in Vienna. It means that no human is limited.
Remove Our Limitations
We need to actually remove our limitations in our minds whether it be in class or our offices.
In This World You Don’t Live Alone
You know, in this world you don’t live alone.
We Need To Love Our Whole Human Race
We need to love our whole human race. It’s about a human family. You can’t do it without human beings.
There Is A Lot Of Beautiful Human Beings
In this world, there is a lot of beautiful human beings.
The Sporting Equivalent Of Landing a Human On Mars
Eliud stunned the world in October when he smashed the 2 hour marathon barrier. It’s ‘the sporting equivalent of landing a human on Mars’ said the Guardian Newspaper. Millions watched. He united the world. Eliud’s sensational run came six months after winning the London Marathon for the fourth time. The Olympic gold medallist, not only broke the 26.2 mile record, he shattered it. Like Roger Bannister, the man who broke the 4 minute mile, Eliud will be remembered forever. Eliud has since, also won the BBC World Sport Star of the Year award. Here is his speech from the BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards.

But Nothing Has Changed
“Nothing has changed” says a smiling Kipchoge as he still takes his turn to clean the toilets at his training camp. He did not celebrate his achievement with champagne (he doesn’t drink). He does, however, occasionally eat chocolate (about two or three times a year). But he has inspired a new generation as he urges us all to ‘Remove Our Limitations’ and remember that there are ‘A Lot of Beautiful Human Beings’ as well as reminding us that ‘ In This World You Don’t Live Alone’.
